An important aspect of her current research involves investigating novel intervention approaches, particularly as these apply to the treatment of perfectionism.

Ariel Beaujot is delighted to be teaching Western Civilization (HIST 1206) for Laurentian at Georgian.  She is currently a Post Doctoral Research Assistant at the University of Toronto and in 2008-2009 was an Assistant Professor at Laurentian University.  She has taught in a variety of fields including colonial history, women’s/gender history, European history, visual/material culture and British history.   Her students have shown their enthusiasm for her teaching methods in these areas and the University of Toronto at Mississauga has recognized her efforts with an award for teaching excellence.

Mark is a full-time faculty teaching Business at the UPC and Georgian School of Business.  Since beginning his teaching career in 2004 Mark has taught over 80 post secondary courses at Georgian as well as at Wilfrid Laurier, Sheridan College, Humber College and the University of Guelph-Humber.  He has reviewed numerous business texts and is currently authoring a Study Guide for a new Canadian edition of a Marketing text.   Topics of particular interest include Customer Relationship Management, in particular, customer retention, increased profitability through employee and customer satisfaction, and using interactive marketing communications to build customer relationships.

I completed my Masters in Human Kinetics with specialization in Sport & Exercise Psychology in April 2008. I have been a part-time faculty member in the University Partnership Centre at Georgian College since September 2008 and I am enjoying every second of it. I am teaching Introductory Psychology courses to degree students from a variety of programs, such as BScN, Golf Management, Police Studies, and Automotive Management. I am extremely excited to teach Applied Sport Psychology to Golf Management Students in the third year of that program. In addition, I look forward to working with all the varsity teams at Georgian during the 2009-2010 season as their Mental Skills Coach.

My focus on the first-year university experience has led to research in developing effective pedagogy that incorporates an understanding of students’ transitions from high school and college. My PhD research includes consideration of student and faculty cultures in the first-year university classroom, and looks specifically at assigned readings as a focal point for intercultural dialogue.  In and out of the classroom, I look for a variety of ways to enrich Net Gen students’ experiences as they begin university studies.

Dr. Ed. C. Robinson, a native of Jamaica, attended the Stony Hill elementary school, and later received private tuition. Graduated in 1974 from the Caenwood Junior Teachers’ College in Kingston, Jamaica where he served as First Vice President of the Student Council, and taught briefly at the elementary school level. In 1975 he graduated from the Jamaica Police Academy and was selected the Valedictorian for his graduating class. He served the Jamaica Constabulary Force for 14 years resigning in 1988 to immigrate to Canada with his wife and family.

She has developed and implemented courses in research and writing skills for York University nursing students,  and popular culture for applied degrees in Automotive Management and Police Studies.  She also teaches first year literature for Laurentian at Georgian, and Communications courses at the Orillia campus of Georgian College .  Her areas of interest are film studies and gender citicism.

Kathleen lives in Orillia with her husband and three children. She is an amateur musician, playing trombone with the Orillia Wind Ensemble, and with the Orillia Little Big Band, a garage band that plays big band and swing music.

Areas of Expertise: Environmental Anthropology, with a specialist in primatology, a biocultural approach to understanding conservation management of large mammal populations.

During the last two decades, Dr. Snarr has been working on the interface between non-human primates, the forests they inhabit, and local peoples. Her work has taken her from mainland China, the Caribbean, and Central America. Her current work is in Honduras where she is examining Honduran New World monkey ecology and other large mammal populations, hunter preferences and the interface with members of the local population.

David N. Stamos has a Ph.D. in philosophy from York University. He currently teaches philosophy and humanities at Georgian College and philosophy and modes of reasoning at York University. He is the author of over a dozen published papers and chapters in philosophy as well as three books: The Species Problem (2003, Lexington Books), Darwin and the Nature of Species (2007, SUNY Press), and Evolution and the Big Questions: Sex, Race, Religion, and Other Matters (2008, Blackwell/Wiley), which won a Choice 2008 Outstanding Academic Title award and is currently being translated into Portuguese and Spanish.

Sherri Steele has been a part-time science professor at Georgian College since the fall of 2008, teaching in both the Laurentian University program and the Health Sciences department.  She received her honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences in 2003 from the University of Guelph.  In September of this year, she completed her PhD in Medical Science at the University of Toronto where her research focused on the pathophysiology of traumatic spinal cord injury.  Over the course of her graduate work, Sherri has enjoyed sharing her research findings in both international and local forums and her work has been published in several journals in the field of neurotrauma.  Sherri is very eager to pursue a full-time teaching career in the field of health and sciences, and has very much enjoyed her start in teaching here at Georgian College.

He is currently working on a thematic biography of the Upper Canadian politician Robert Baldwin, provisionally entitled “Robert Baldwin’s World: A Nineteenth-Century Politician in Context.”  He is also in the process of transforming his doctoral dissertation into a book, under the title “The Religious Atlantic: British Wesleyanism and the Formation of an Evangelical Culture in Nineteenth-Century Ontario and Quebec.”

Jan is a graduate of Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Social Services, and Wilfrid Laurier University in Psychology, Sociology (BA) & Social Work (MSW), and a PhD from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  Her work as an agency director, trainer, consultant and therapist has allowed her to acquire skills in community development as well as individual, group and family counselling. She has worked frontline in downtown Toronto with homeless individuals in the communities of Parkdale and Moss Park for 13 years. She was the director of a withdrawal management service in Simcoe County for nine years.
